The Punjab Assembly Standing Committee on Education has directed all private schools across the province to strictly implement the legal requirement of reserving 10% of their seats free of charge for deserving and underprivileged students. Schools have been given a deadline of 10 days to ensure full compliance with the law.
The committee warned that any private educational institution found violating this requirement could face strict action, including the suspension or cancellation of its licence.
Officials stressed that the policy is designed to ensure children from disadvantaged backgrounds have equal opportunities to access quality education.
In addition, the committee recommended that the Education Department take a more proactive role by directly identifying and enrolling eligible students, rather than relying solely on data submitted by private schools.
This approach aims to improve transparency, prevent misuse of the policy, and ensure that deserving families receive the benefits intended under the law.
Authorities will also collect compliance reports from private schools across Punjab to monitor implementation and verify that institutions are fulfilling their legal obligations.
The move reflects the government’s broader commitment to strengthening educational access, promoting social inclusion, and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to receive a quality education regardless of their financial circumstances.
