PTV Set to Make History by Starting HD Broadcast from June: Fawad Chaudhary

Fawad Hussain Chaudhry, the Minister of Information, said he had resumed the reform process in his ministry that he had started in 2018. The state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) is being revamped and modernized as part of the steps.

In a series of tweets, the minister said that PTV News had been given a deadline of June 1 to complete a high definition (HD) project that had been pending since 2019. “PTV News will be converted to full HD on June 1st, and PTV Sports will become an HD channel later this year,” he said.

According to Chaudhry Fawad, an English-language channel will be launched this year as part of the reform process.

PTV studios in Karachi and Lahore, he said, will be renovated through a public-private partnership. In addition, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) will be transformed into a digital news organization.

He claimed that the government’s top priority was the revival of film and drama. “Work on a world-class documentary production (on the lives of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and Tipu Sultan) has begun.”
