Punjab Bans Qingqi Rickshaws Giving Owners 30-Day Deadline

The caretaker provincial government of Punjab has imposed a strict ban on Qingqi rickshaws, including in Lahore.

The Caretaker Provincial Minister of Punjab for Transport, Livestock, and Mines & Minerals, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, stated that a 30-day warning period has been issued to the rickshaw owners.

Following this period, the government plans to initiate a crackdown, including against the illegal production of motorcycle and loader rickshaws.

Additionally, the ban will be enforced on all rickshaws in major cities that lack approval from the transport department.

The government intends to extend the crackdown to small cities and rural areas in the next phase.

Chief Secretary Punjab, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, had previously announced a ban on the manufacturing and sale of new Qingqi rickshaws, citing environmental pollution concerns.

Caretaker CM Punjab had also declared a 30-day free registration period for Qingqi rickshaws.
