Punjab Decides to Charge Driving License Fees Every Year

The temporary government in Punjab has made important changes to the driving license system, moving from a payment once every five years to an annual fee starting from January 2024.

The fee for a learner driving license has increased by Rs440, changing from Rs60 to Rs500 per year. Motorcycle riders and rickshaw drivers will now pay Rs500 every year instead of the previous payment every five years. Car and jeep drivers will see a rise in the 5-year license fee, now set at Rs1,800 per year, up from the earlier fee of Rs950.

The fees for heavy transport have increased from Rs400 to Rs2,000 per year. There are also adjustments for disabled individuals, with public service vehicle fees for a 5-year license changing from Rs450 to Rs1,500 per year.

It’s worth noting that fees for other license categories, excluding those mentioned, have gone up from Rs100 to Rs1,000. This marks the first change in the last 20 years.
