The Punjab government has earmarked Rs. 49 million in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2026–27 for the proposed Rawalpindi–Murree Glass Train project, marking an initial step toward one of Pakistan’s most ambitious tourism and transport initiatives.
With an estimated total cost of Rs. 117 billion, the proposed project aims to introduce a modern glass train offering panoramic views along the scenic Rawalpindi–Murree route. The initiative is intended to improve regional connectivity, enhance the travel experience, and support tourism in one of Pakistan’s most popular hill destinations.
Officials believe the project could help boost tourism, generate economic activity, and reduce traffic congestion on the busy Murree Expressway by providing an alternative mode of transport. Further planning, feasibility studies, and approvals are expected before construction moves forward.
