Punjab on High Alert as India releases Floodwater in Ravi

Recently, authorities set on alert as India released another sloosh of floodwater in Pakistan’s river. Whereas, PMD ( Pakistan Meteorological Department) already alert the nation that the country was expected to have above average rainfall during the current monsoon season.

Indus Water Commission’s representative of India notified 170,000 cusecs water had been released into the Ravi, as they opened the spillway of Ujh Barage.

Information was shared with their Pakistani counterparts. However, they said it was expected that water would enter in the country by Monday midnight.

It was observed second time that India released floodwater into Pakistani river during this season. Previously, it was released into the Chenab river. According to the Indus Water pact, India is bound to inform Pakistan prior about the release.

Basicall, The Ujh Barrage over the Ujh river – a tributary of the Ravi river that flows through the Kathua district – which is situated at Jasrota village in the Indian Illegally taken up Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The water reaches Pakistan through Jassar village in the Narowal district of Punjab.
