Punjab ProposesRs. 703 Million for Chief Minister and Cabinet Expenses in New Budget

The Government of Punjab has proposed setting aside Rs. 703 million in its FY2026–27 budget to cover the operational expenses of the chief minister, cabinet members, and other political officeholders. The allocation is part of the province’s broader financial plan and reflects the administrative costs associated with running the political leadership.

According to the proposed budget documents, the amount will be used to support 91 political positions, including ministers, advisers, parliamentary secretaries, and special assistants. The spending plan includes salaries, allowances, travel expenses, transport facilities, and other official benefits provided to these officeholders as part of their roles in the provincial government.

A major portion of the proposed allocation, exceeding Rs. 540 million, has been earmarked specifically for salaries, while the remaining funds will be distributed across various allowances and official travel-related expenditures. These provisions are intended to ensure the smooth functioning of the provincial cabinet and its supporting political structure.

The budget proposal is expected to be presented for review and debate in the Punjab Assembly, where lawmakers will discuss and evaluate the spending before granting final approval. The allocation has already drawn attention as part of the wider provincial budget discussions, with debates likely to focus on government expenditures and fiscal priorities for the upcoming year.
