Restaurants, marriage halls and other businesses in Punjab may face heavy fines for issuing handwritten receipts instead of proper electronic invoices as the provincial government tightens its tax monitoring system.
On the orders of PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, district commissioners have issued notices requiring these businesses to generate all customer receipts only through the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS). Handwritten bills, kitchen order slips, unpaid bills, or other informal papers are no longer allowed as substitutes.
Every proper receipt must have:
- Business name
- Address
- unique receipt number
- PRA QR code.
Customers are encouraged to ask for these official electronic bills so taxes are correctly recorded. Businesses that keep issuing receipts outside the EIMS face fines ranging from Rs 400,000 to Rs 1 million.
The PRA has already taken action against restaurants and food outlets over tax violations. In one enforcement drive, several businesses were sealed while others were issued notices for failing to follow electronic invoicing requirements.
Businesses are urged to switch fully to the electronic system without any further delay.
