Rawalpindi Declares Flood Emergency from June 15 to September 15Amid Monsoon

Rawalpindi authorities have declared a flood emergency from June 15 to September 15 in anticipation of above-normal monsoon rains and an increased threat of urban flooding across the district. The decision comes as weather forecasts indicate heavier-than-usual rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season, raising concerns about water accumulation in low-lying areas and along major drainage channels.

To strengthen preparedness, a central flood monitoring control room will remain operational under the supervision of the Pakistan Army, while the 111 Brigade has been placed on high alert to respond to any emergency situation. Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 teams are scheduled to conduct flood rescue and evacuation drills after Eid to ensure rapid response capabilities. Authorities have also announced the installation of hand-operated emergency sirens in vulnerable localities, the establishment of five relief camps for affected residents, and the completion of cleaning and desilting work at Leh Nullah and major storm drains before the start of the monsoon season. Officials say these measures are aimed at minimizing flood risks, protecting lives and property, and ensuring an effective response in case of severe weather conditions.
