Rawalpindi Ring Road Set to Open in July After Years of Delays

After years of planning and construction, the long-awaited Rawalpindi Ring Road project is now in its final stages and is expected to be opened for traffic in July 2026.

The major infrastructure initiative is designed to transform the region’s transportation network by diverting heavy and intercity traffic away from the city’s busiest roads, helping to reduce congestion and improve the overall flow of vehicles.

According to officials, more than 90% of the construction work has already been completed. The remaining work primarily includes final road surfacing, drainage systems, lane markings, street lighting, safety barriers, and landscaping.

Once fully operational, the 38-kilometre expressway will provide faster and more efficient connectivity between key highways, significantly cutting travel times for commuters and freight transport.

Beyond easing traffic, the Ring Road is expected to play a vital role in the economic development of the region. Improved connectivity will support industrial and commercial growth along the corridor, attract new investment, and create opportunities for businesses and logistics operations.

With the project finally approaching completion after years of delays, residents and commuters are looking forward to one of the most significant transport upgrades in Rawalpindi’s history.
