Return of Pakistan in FATF’s whitelist will boost country’s economy: Hina Khar

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar has said FATF has unanimously decided to remove Pakistan from the “list of jurisdictions under increased monitoring and now it has been whitelisted by FATF.

She stated at a news conference on Friday in Paris that FATF had praised Pakistan for its major advancements in strengthening its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing regimes. It has been acknowledged, according to her, that Pakistan has improved the efficiency of its AML and CFT regimes. Also, addressed technical issues and obligations of its 34-item Action Plans.

According to minister of state, this is the outcome of nationwide efforts and a sign to strengthen our domestic mechanisms. For combating money laundering and the funding of terrorism and bring them up to par with international standards. She claimed that without total national agreement on all political issues, this would not have been possible.

Hina Rabbani thanked the national leadership and support to all institutions throughout the process to achieve this key national objective. She said the success we have achieved today is indicator of what we can achieve when we work together.
