Reviving Tradition: The Brilliant Story of Noon & Co and South Asia’s Stone Craft Legacy

In the heart of South Asia lies a tradition that echoes through centuries, a testament to the mastery of stone artisans whose skills have carved stories into the very fabric of history. The roots of South Asia’s stone craft tradition run deep, its origins intertwined with the cultural tapestry of the subcontinent. Dating back centuries, this tradition found its pinnacle in the stone carvings of the great Buddha in Pakistan’s Taxila. These intricate sculptures not only served as religious icons but also showcased the unparalleled craftsmanship of the artisans who shaped them.

Inspired by the profound legacy of these artisans, entrepreneur Taimur Noon, embarked on a journey to harness their skill and elevate the design sensibility of stone craft. Travelling extensively across Pakistan, Noon witnessed firsthand the craftsmanship of the stone masons and recognized the potential to breathe new life into this age-old tradition.

This was the beginning of Noon & Co. A guild dedicated to preserving and reviving the ancient art of stone craft in the region. Committed to sustainability, the guild sources its stone ethically from different regions in Pakistan, primarily in the North, ensuring a harmonious balance between tradition and environmental stewardship.

Noon & Co’s repertoire spans a diverse range of stoneware products, from exquisite sinks and elegant lighting to furniture and ornamental accessories, from candle stands to soap dishes, bookends to vases. Each piece is a fusion of craftsmanship and contemporary design, paying homage to the heritage of South Asia’s stone craft while catering to the discerning tastes of modern patrons. Noon & Co’s pieces now grace homes and projects across Pakistan, Dubai KSA, Europe and America. The brand is housed at two flagship stores: One in Islamabad’s upscale F-6 Markaz in Wilson’s Plaza and the other, recently opened in Lahore’s most coveted market for home shopping, architects, interior designers, and constructors, in DD Commercial, Phase 4 DHA. The preview week itself in Lahore saw some of the countries most feted artists and designers visit, including globally celebrated artists Imran Qureshi and Rashid Rana as well as Karachi’s supremo interior force Naheed Mushooqullah, among many others.

Beyond crafting luxury goods, Taimur Noon’s mission extends to safeguarding the future of stone artisans. By providing a platform for these skilled craftsmen to thrive, Noon aims to ensure that their legacy endures and evolves into a sustainable career path.

As Noon & Co sets its sights on global expansion, its journey serves as a beacon of hope for the preservation of cultural heritage and the empowerment of artisans worldwide. Through dedication, innovation, and a deep respect for tradition, Noon & Co is not just reviving a craft—it’s igniting a renaissance that promises to shape the cultural landscape for generations to come.
