Rs. 59 billion to purchase the electronic voting machines set up a data centre and install a system for e-voting

The ECP (Electronic Voting Machines) has notified the federal cabinet that purchasing electronic voting machines (EVMs), setting up a data centre, and installing an e-voting system will cost an initial sum of Rs59 billion.

The government has conditionally approved the ECP’s demands during a recent cabinet meeting.

A committee led by Science and Technology Minister Shibli Faraz has been constituted to implement the new regulations on the use of EVMs and e-voting.

The ministers of information technology, telecommunications, and railroads, as well as the PM’s parliamentary affairs adviser and Pakistan’s attorney general, are all members of the body.

The secretariat for the committee has been established at the Parliamentary Affairs Division.
