Saidpur Village History

Saidpur Village History

Saidpur village Islamabad wasn’t always known by the name it has now; before 1530, it was called “Fatehpur Baoli” in honor of its founder, Mirza Fateh Ali. Raja Said Sultan, son of Sultan Sarang Khan, built the village. He was from the “Gakhar” tribe, which came from Iran.

In 1580, the Hindu Commander Raja Man Singh turned the village of Saidpur into a place of worship by building temples and gurudwaras. The name of the village was changed to “Saidpur Village” after Mughal Emperor Akhbar gave it to Sultan Said. Sultan Said then gave it to his daughter, who was married to Mughal Emperor Jahangir, Akhbar’s son.

Saidpur Village in Islamabad was formerly a garden and meeting spot where local Hindus would assemble to celebrate the harvest festival of Baisakhi. A Sikh Gurdwara was built next to the temple at the beginning of the 20th century.

By the end of 2008, Saidpur Village had been changed into a beautiful place. Under the direction of Chairman CDA Mr. Kamran Lashari, the Capital Development Authority began work in 2006 to turn Saidpur into a cultural and historical tourist attraction. The French government gave technical help for this project, which cost a total of Rs. 400 million.
