Samsung officially starts mobile production in Pakistan

Samsung has begun manufacturing in Pakistan, giving both the government and the sector hope that the move may reduce Pakistan’s import bill in the near future.

According to a report by Dawn, the development was revealed on Tuesday at a meeting of the company’s top executives with senators who had come to the production site to receive a briefing on the rapidly growing new sector and the challenges that lie ahead for Pakistan’s cellphone manufacturing industry.

According to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local manufacturing plant production of mobile phones has nearly doubled to 18.87 million units, compared to 45 million units imported in the first ten months of this year.

Despite the fact that domestic production of mobile phones has increased, imports have remained high. According to PTA data, mobile phones worth $644.673 million were imported in the first four months of 2021 (July-October), up 15.54 percent from $557.961 million in the same period last year.
