By December 2021, a subsidiary of Lucky Cement will be producing mobile phones in Pakistan for Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer.
Lucky Motor Corporation Limited (LMC), a subsidiary of Lucky Cement Limited, is now engaged in the manufacturing, assembly, marketing, distribution, and sales of Kia and Peugeot branded vehicles, according to a notification filed with the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.
Hammad Azhar, the Minister of Energy, also announced it on Twitter. “I congratulate Lucky Group and Samsung on forming a joint venture to produce cellphones in Pakistan,” he wrote. These positive achievements are proof of the DIRBS system’s efficacy in eliminating phone smuggling. Then there was the Mobile Manufacturing Policy last year.”
In connection with this purchase, LMC has begun the process of obtaining the necessary regulatory licences to carry on the business, and has filed an application with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for a licence, according to the notification.
The Samsung Mobile Devices production facility will be placed inside LMC’s current car production site in Bin Qasim Industrial Park, Special Economic Zone.
