Sania Zehra Becomes Kashmir’s First and Only Female Beekeeper at Age 21

At just 21 years old, Sania Zehra from Balhama, on the outskirts of Srinagar, has made history by becoming Kashmir’s first and only female beekeeper. She is proudly known as the “Bee Queen of Kashmir.”

Sania learned the art of beekeeping from her father and grandfather. What began as a small family tradition has flourished under her dedicated care. In just four years, she has expanded the business fourfold and now successfully manages over 650 bee colonies. Her high-quality honey is sold in local markets as well as exported to international destinations.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including harsh winters, repeated bee stings, and online trolling, Sania remained determined and focused. She produces a variety of products from beekeeping, including beauty products, wax, and green pollen.

She personally handles every aspect of the business, from beehive management to marketing and sales. She also engages in import-export activities related to honey products.

Sania considers beekeeping a blessed profession mentioned in the Quran and views it as a highly respectable way to earn a living. She believes that no job is too small and that everyone should work with honesty and dedication.

Her inspiring journey has motivated many in the community, with more than 20 people already approaching her for guidance to start their own beekeeping ventures.

Sania Zehra’s success story is breaking stereotypes and proving that young women in Kashmir can excel in unique and challenging fields.
