Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday that his government’s flagship Sehat Card Scheme would revolutionize the health sector in addition to offering universal health coverage to the poor and needy.
“Universal health coverage will… protect the vulnerable against the economic fallout of contracting a disease,” he said at the Pakistan Medical Commission’s (PMC) online services launch ceremony.
As per the Prime Minister, developed countries do not offer complete healthcare coverage to their people, but Pakistan, despite its limited resources, is working toward full universal health coverage.
He further said that two provinces had made decisions in this regard, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa providing health coverage to all of its citizens and Punjab planning to do so by the end of the year.
He said that in the future, the private sector will build hospitals in small towns and villages. Previously, the private sector would not go to remote areas because residents lacked purchasing power, but now they will have health cards and will be able to get medical attention, he added.
