Shahana Abbas Shani Becomes South Punjab’s First Transgender Victim Support Officer

Shahana Abbas Shani has become South Punjab’s first transgender woman to take charge as a Victim Support Officer at a Punjab Police Protection Centre.

Shani, who is from South Punjab, will serve as a link between victims and police. Her responsibilities also include helping victims access support services through her role at the Protection Centre.

The appointment follows an earlier first for Shani in a different field. She previously became the first transgender woman in Punjab to obtain a heavy transport vehicle (HTV) driving licence and learn to drive a truck.
