Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has become the country’s fastest fast bowler to take 150 wickets in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He achieved the milestone on Sunday, October 25, during Pakistan’s tri-series match against England at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.
The 26-year-old left-arm pacer reached the landmark in his 80th ODI. He dismissed England opener Tom Banton in the first over, with Arafat Minhas taking the catch to complete the wicket. This was Shaheen’s 150th dismissal in the 50-over format.
Shaheen broke the previous Pakistani fast-bowling record shared by former players Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar. Both legends needed 91 matches to reach 150 ODI wickets.
However, Shaheen is still behind former Pakistan off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who reached the milestone in just 78 matches, making him the country’s fastest bowler overall to achieve the feat.
Internationally, Shaheen is joint-fourth fastest to 150 ODI wickets, alongside Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and India’s Mohammed Shami, who also reached the mark in 80 matches. Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane holds the overall record, having achieved the milestone in 73 ODIs.
