Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, an Academy Award-winning filmmaker, has teamed with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to commemorate 70 years of cricket in Pakistan with the production of a documentary that covers the country’s long relationship with the game.
The short video, produced by SOC Films under Obaid-Chinoy, covers the highs and lows of Pakistan cricket, beginning with the country’s maiden match in 1952 and eventually going up to the formation of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Pakistan winning a Test match on their debut tour of England in 1954, the emergence of Imran Khan in the 1970s, Pakistan winning the 1992 ODI World Cup, and some difficult days in the early 2000s are all depicted in the video.
The documentary honours the “trailblazers whose achievements put Pakistan firmly on the sporting map, as well as those players who carried a flame to ensure that no cricketing competition is ever complete without the Green Shirts.”
