Sindh government approved purchase of 250 electric buses for usage in Karachi and other cities

The Sindh Cabinet approved awarding the project to the National Radio Telecommunication Centre (NRTC) to acquire the buses by December 2021 and invest Rs3 billion in infrastructure development, including as the installation of depots and bus stops, as well as the operation of the buses.

Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh, announced this while presiding over a cabinet meeting here at CM House on Thursday.

All provincial ministers, advisors, special assistants, Chief Secretary Mumtaz Shah, Chairperson P&D Shireen Narejo, and concerned secretaries were present at the meeting.

The Chief Minister described it as “excellent news for the people of the province, especially the inhabitants of the city.”

According to Minister of Transport Awais Qadir Shah, the Chief Minister has already allocated Rs8 billion in 2020-21 and Rs6.4 billion in 2021-22 for the procurement of 250 Diesel Hybrid Electric Buses under the Sindh Intra-district Peoples Bus Service Project for Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
