Sindh Govt to Spend Rs. 3.5 Billion to Rebuild Karachi’s Roads

Recently, Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced that the Government of Sindh and KMC (Karachi Metropolitan Corporation) have saved Rs3.5 billion for the reconstruction of the roads.

Provincial government’s representative who is also the city administrator and the law adviser of chief minister conducted a meeting to discuss about the post-rain situation in the city. Syed Afzal Zaidi, Municipal Commissioner and other relevant Officers were also present in the meeting.

The city has received over 600mm rain, as per Wahab observed the situation, because of the climate change as more than normal rainfall witnessed all around the world, including Pakistan. However, the estimated reconstruction of the Karachi’s road would be approximately Rs3.5 billion.

Further, he informed that the relief work is divided into two categories. Firstly, Annual Development Programme (ADP) projects related to roads and water & sewerage will be completed on priority basis. Whereas, the second, potholes in the city’s roads will be filled.

He further informed that the provincial government would spend Rs2.5 billion on the reconstruction of roads while KMC would spend over Rs500 million rehabilitation works, which will provide quick relief to the people.

He said a procedure needs to be followed in order to clear the rainwater in the city on a permanent basis. He added in the past rainwater use to stuck at Nagan Chowrangi, KDA Chowrangi, Natha Khan, Nursery, Gulistan-e-Zafar Society and Kharadar but now the situation has improved after new drainage system installation in all these areas.

He added further that with an engineering solutions complete drainage is possible. He observed that it is important to have a permanent solution so that the citizen’s problems could be reduced.

Lastly, he advised that every institution needs to join hands with one another for the improvement and development of Karachi.
