The Sindh Assembly has strongly opposed any proposal that could lead to the division of Sindh or the creation of separate administrative units by taking territory away from the province.
The resolution was moved by Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro during a session of the provincial legislature. It emphasized the constitutional protection available to Sindh’s boundaries under Article 239(4) of the Constitution.
According to the resolution, any attempt to change the limits of a province requires approval from the concerned provincial assembly with a two-thirds majority. The assembly also made its position clear against separating any district, region, or other part of Sindh from the province.
The house further rejected the possibility of placing any area of Sindh under direct federal control. The move reflects the assembly’s firm stance on maintaining the province’s existing territorial structure.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also spoke in support of Sindh’s territorial integrity. He maintained that the province’s unity should be protected and that decisions affecting its territory should follow constitutional procedures.
The development comes amid a wider debate over administrative arrangements in Sindh. MQM-P boycotted the assembly session, saying that the focus should instead be on administrative decentralisation. The party has argued that creating stronger administrative structures can address local governance issues without dividing the province.
The resolution has therefore highlighted a clear difference between the positions of the provincial government and MQM-P. While the assembly has rejected territorial division, MQM-P continues to call for greater administrative decentralisation.
With the resolution, the Sindh Assembly has formally reiterated its opposition to separating any part of the province and supported the continuation of Sindh as a single territorial unit.
