Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to deepen customs cooperation through a series of digital and technology-driven initiatives aimed at enhancing regional trade, border security, and operational efficiency.
The agreement was reached during high-level discussions held in Tashkent, where officials from both countries explored new ways to strengthen collaboration between their customs authorities.
As part of the enhanced partnership, the two sides agreed to expand their existing digital customs connectivity by incorporating transit trade data into the system.
The move is expected to enable real-time information sharing, streamline customs procedures, accelerate cargo clearance, and improve transparency across border operations.
Officials also emphasized the adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data analytics, to strengthen risk management, detect suspicious trade activities, and support intelligence-led enforcement.
These tools are expected to improve the identification of high-risk shipments while facilitating legitimate trade more efficiently.
In addition, both countries highlighted the importance of closer public-private partnerships and greater technical cooperation to modernize customs operations.
Dedicated technical teams will now work on drafting detailed protocols and implementation frameworks to ensure the successful rollout of the agreed initiatives.
