Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has thanked a young Palestinian girl named Layan Al-Qawqa and local artists for painting a mural of him in Gaza. The artwork appeared on a damaged building amid the ongoing conflict and destruction.
Layan shared a video of the mural, speaking in Arabic and Spanish. She said it was more than a painting. It was made with love, hope, and gratitude for Spain’s support of the Palestinian people. She hoped the message would reach homes across Spain.
Sánchez replied in a video message on social media. He called the mural a “beautiful gesture.” He thanked Layan, the artists, and Palestinians who showed kindness despite great pain.
“To Layan, to all the boys and girls of Gaza, and to your families, I want to say something very simple: the whole of Spanish society hears you, sees you, cares about you, and does not forget you,” Sánchez said. He expressed hope that Gaza’s children could soon return to schools, paint freely without fear, and grow up in peace. He ended with a big hug from Spain.
