Spain’s 2026 World Cup winners Fabián Ruiz and Gavi received a special and unusual honor from their hometown. In Los Palacios y Villafranca, near Seville, the two midfielders were given tomatoes equal to their body weight as part of a local tradition.
Fabián Ruiz received about 85 kg of tomatoes, while Gavi got around 68.5 kg. The town is famous for its high-quality “bombón colorao” tomatoes. This fun custom started in 2010 when another local star, Jesús Navas, helped Spain win their first World Cup.
The players attended a special ceremony at the town hall. The local council also announced plans to rename two football fields after Ruiz and Gavi. They will build a monument to celebrate the town’s three World Cup winners — Navas, Ruiz, and Gavi. This will inspire young people in the area.
