Sri Lanka Excuses itself from Hosting Asia Cup 2022 amid Economical Crisis

Due to Political and Economy crises, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has withdrawn from hosting the Asia cup 2022. They have informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) about its inability to host.

As per Sri Lankan media, the SLC informed the ACC about its decision, maintaining that it is “not in a position” to organize the Asia Cup cricket tournament in the country due to the current political and economic situation in the country.

SLC postponed the third season of the Lanka Premier League due to the economic crisis they are facing. SLC officials expressed their intent on hosting the event in the UAE instead.

Asia Cup 2022 is set to commence on August 27 and end on September 11.

The ACC is expected to formally announce the shift of venue in due course. The ACC will have to speed up the preparations process to ensure there is no delay in the start of the tournament.
