Pakistan’s Muhammad Ashab Irfan reached the men’s singles squash semi-finals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after beating India’s Veer Chotrani 3-1 in the quarter-final on Friday, September 25.
Irfan lost the first game 6-11 but came back strongly. He won the next three games 11-8, 11-3 and 11-3. He completed the match in 41 minutes at the Nagoya Kinjo Futo Arena.
With this win, Irfan has secured at least a bronze medal for Pakistan. He will face India’s Abhay Singh in the semi-final on Saturday.
After the match, Irfan and Chotrani shook hands and showed good sportsmanship despite the tough competition.
Irfan reached the quarter-final after defeating Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Al Nasfan 3-0 in the round of 16. He had not lost a single game before meeting Chotrani.
Pakistan also reached another men’s singles semi-final through Noor Zaman. He defeated Hong Kong’s Chi Hin Henry Leung 3-1.
