“There is no Load Shedding in Pakistan”, Claim Energy and Power Minister

Federal Energy Minister Khurrum Dastagir has stated that there have been “zero” load outages in the country since May 1, 2022. The Energy Minister has said that there is currently no electricity shortage. He claimed during a May 10 press conference in Islamabad.

Khurram said there was no electricity shortage in the country when he ended his term as energy minister on May 31, 2018.

When he took office on April 26, power plants with a capacity of more than 7,000 megawatts were shut down, it said. Electricity production in the country today is 22,634 megawatts, which exceeds our needs, he added.

He further clarified that load shedding could only be suffered at sites with severe line losses or insufficient bill recovery. He added that the long-term and most efficient way to curb pressure losses is to switch to solar and wind power.

Maximizing the use of thar coal could also be a very efficient way to contain the country’s energy crisis, the minister added.

Load outages spanning 810 hours occurred in several cities across the country, despite claims by the Secretary of Energy. According to KE sources, almost all areas face 810 hours of unannounced load shedding.
