This Painting Sold at Auction for $35 Million

A painting by Claude Monet was sold for nearly $35 million at an auction held by Sotheby’s, signaling a robust beginning to New York’s spring art sales.

The artwork, titled “Meules à Giverny,” painted in 1893, fetched $34.8 million after a lively bidding competition. This success comes despite challenges in the global art market last year, with recent strong sales in London and Paris boosting optimism for 2024.

Both Sotheby’s and Christie’s commenced their spring auction seasons with high hopes and positive expectations for continued strong sales and interest in valuable artworks.
