Turkish Garbage Collectors Opened a Library with All of the Books People Throw Out in Their Trash

In Ankara, a special library has been created with a unique idea – saving books that were going to be thrown away. Garbage collectors in the city started collecting discarded books and soon turned it into a public library in the Çankaya district. The idea was supported by the Mayor, Alper Tasdelen, and it quickly gained popularity among the residents who also started donating their own books.

The library, which opened to the public in September last year, now has over 6,000 books covering various topics like literature, nonfiction, and even children’s books.

It is located in an old brick factory at the sanitation department headquarters, giving it a charming and historic feel. The library allows people to borrow books for two weeks and can be extended if needed.

The impact of this library has been so great that it now supplies books to schools, educational programs, and even correctional facilities, promoting a sense of community and spreading knowledge to all.
