UNDP Mission to Support the Digital Pakistan Initiative

Earlier this month, a high-level United Nations Development Program (UNDP) delegation arrived in Pakistan to support the country’s digital transformation.

Tariq Malik, UNDP Chief Technical Advisor on Digital Governance and former Chair of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), is heading the delegation.

Tariq Malik and the UNDP mission will formally begin the trip, according to the information, after the end of their mandatory two-week quarantine on 20 November.

The former president of NADRA will have virtual and in-person meetings with members of various UN agencies and development partners. He will also invite ministers and federal secretaries to inform them on digital methods to strengthen governance.

In this regard, an official memorandum has already been released by the Economic Affairs Division to all ministries, divisions and departments to direct them to arrange meetings with the Tariq Malik-led UNDP mission.

It is expected that the UNDP mission will address the Digital Pakistan Strategy with the IT Ministry, the e-payment system with the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, the role of digital technology in the response to COVID-19 with the Ministry of National Health Services, and the gender gap and registration statistics of the vulnerable population with the President of NADRA.
