US Returns 133 Stolen Artifacts to Pakistan Worth Over $13 Million

The United States has handed back 133 ancient artifacts to Pakistan in a special ceremony held at the Manhattan District Attorney’s office in New York. These artifacts, valued at more than $13 million, date back to the Gandhara period and are the fifth batch of such items returned from the US to Pakistan.

Consul General Aamer Ahmed Atozai expressed thanks to the authorities involved in the repatriation process. He mentioned that the recovered pieces will be displayed in museums across Pakistan, enriching the country’s cultural heritage.

An agreement was signed to facilitate the return of these artifacts, underscoring the significance of Pakistan’s cultural treasures. Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bogdanos highlighted Pakistan’s rich history and the importance of preserving its cultural heritage.

This repatriation follows a similar event in 2022 when 192 stolen antiquities were returned to Pakistan from the US.
