Apple is set to launch its first water-resistant iPad later this year. Reports say the new iPad mini will arrive by October 2026 and become the first Apple tablet with official water resistance.
No current iPad has a water-resistance rating. Apple has always advised users to keep them away from liquids. The upcoming model aims to change that. It should handle everyday risks like spills, light rain, or use near a pool or bathroom much better.
Apple is using a special vibration-based speaker system for this. Instead of traditional speaker holes, sound will come from the flat surfaces of the tablet’s body. This removes one of the main ways water and dust can enter the device. The design is different from the seals used on iPhones.
The exact IP rating is still unknown. iPhones are rated IP68 and can survive deeper water up to six meters deep for 30 minutes. The iPad mini will likely offer solid splash protection rather than full waterproofing.
This change will help students, office workers, and travelers who use their iPads in many places. It fits Apple’s push for stronger, more durable devices. In June, the Korean publication ETNews stated that Samsung Display had started producing OLED panels in large quantities for the new iPad.
