WhatsApp to Soon Let Users Send Messages That Auto-Delete After Being Seen

WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a new privacy feature that will give users more control over their chats. The feature will allow messages to automatically disappear after they are read by the recipient.

This new option, called an “after reading” timer, will start only when the other person opens and reads the message. This is different from the current disappearing messages feature, which begins counting down immediately after the message is sent, even if it has not been seen.

The update is designed to make conversations more flexible and secure. Users will be able to choose how long a message stays visible after it is read. Options may include a few minutes or a few hours, depending on what the user selects.

The feature is currently being tested in a beta version of the app. Early testing suggests that it will come with improved controls and a simpler, more user-friendly design. If testing goes well, the feature is expected to be released globally in the near future.

This change is part of ongoing efforts by WhatsApp to improve privacy and give users more control over their personal communication. It is especially useful for people who share sensitive or temporary information and want it to disappear after being viewed.

However, officials have not yet confirmed the final release date, and the feature may still change before the official launch.
