WhatsApp will now convert irritating or unclear voicenotes into texts.

According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a ‘voice message transcription’ feature that will convert your voice inputs into text. The advantage of the choice is that users do not have to rely on typing, which is especially useful for long communications. WhatsApp already has the ability to send Voice Notes, which recently received an upgrade that allows users to control playback speed. The goal of Voice Notes is to provide the same benefits as sending long messages, but in the form of an audio file. The latest voice message transcription is claimed to be in the works, although the exact timing of its release is unknown.

WABetaInfo, a popular WhatsApp updates tracker, discovered the feature in WhatsApp beta versions for Android and iOS. The audio message transcription may also be available on WhatsApp Web, according to the publication.

The feature is optional, according to the article, but special permission will be necessary if users choose to transcribe a message. Permission to access the smartphone’s microphone and Speech Recognition feature would be required. A message’s transcription is supposedly saved locally in the WhatsApp database when it is transcribed for the first time. Users will be able to access the same message if they wish to share it with others or save the text for later use.

Transcripted messages will not be transferred to WhatsApp or Facebook servers for transcription, instead relying on the phone’s speech recognition function, according to the outlet. “But it won’t be directly linked to your identity,” according to reports, Apple will utilise this to improve its speech recognition technology. More information from WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, is due soon.
