World’s Most Expensive Vehicle Number Plate Sold in Dubai for 55 Million Dirhams

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the company previously held the record for the most expensive plate ever when it sold the 1 license plate at auction in 2008 for 52 million dirhams, or roughly $14.2 million US.

The 7 license plate has already surpassed that record by around $800,000 US. It also includes the letter P to match the structure of Dubai license plates.

The “P7” license plate reportedly brought in a remarkable 55 million dirhams at an Emirates Auction charity sale on Saturday, according to The Seattle Times. Dubai’s license plate is made in such a way that it effectively consists of a single numeral 7 plate with the P offset to one side. The 1 Billion Meals Endowment, a component of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s food relief initiative, received the sale’s proceeds.

The Dubai winning bidder’s identity was kept a secret. But with such a prominent license plate, they expect to be rather noticeable while driving around.
