Pearl, a two-year-old female Chihuahua, has recently been recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s shortest-living dog.
Born on September 1, 2020, Pearl measures a mere 9.14 cm (3.59 in) in height and 12.7 cm (5.0 in) in length, making her shorter than a popsicle, tinier than a TV remote, and almost the same length as a dollar note.
Pearl’s owner, Vanesa Semler, introduced her on the Italian TV show Lo Show Dei Record, where Pearl was carried onto the stage in an Easter egg-shaped seat, receiving thunderous applause. Despite the live audience, Pearl remained unfazed and displayed a calm temperament, although Ms. Semler jokingly referred to her as a bit of a diva. Ms. Semler also shared that Pearl enjoys eating high-quality food like chicken and salmon, and loves dressing up nicely.
Pearl’s title as the world’s shortest-living dog is particularly noteworthy as she is the daughter of Miracle Milly’s identical sister, who previously held the same title. Miracle Milly, a Chihuahua born in 2011, measured 9.65 centimeters (3.8 inches) tall until she passed away in 2020. Pearl’s height was measured three times at different intervals at the Crystal Creek Animal Hospital in Orlando, where she was born, to ensure accuracy. Each measurement was taken from the base of her front leg foot up to the top of the withers in a straight vertical line.
