In the first three months of 2024, global smartphone shipments increased by 7.8%, reaching a total of 289.4 million units compared to the same period last year. This marks the third consecutive quarter of growth for the smartphone market, signaling a recovery after a challenging time, according to a report from the market research firm IDC.

The top five smartphone brands during this quarter were Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Transsion, and Oppo. Samsung led the market with a 20.8% share, followed by Apple with a 17.3% share. Xiaomi held a 14.1% share, while Transsion and Oppo accounted for 9.9% and 8.7% shares respectively.

Xiaomi saw a significant rise in shipments, with 40.8 million units shipped, representing a 33.8% increase compared to last year. Transsion also experienced a notable surge, shipping 28.5 million units, which is an 84.9% increase from the previous year.

On the other hand, Oppo faced a decline in its shipments, with 25.2 million units shipped. This marks an 8.5% decrease compared to the same period last year. Despite Oppo’s decrease, the overall market’s growth suggests that the smartphone industry is on the path to recovery.
