Pakistan’s Samina Baig is preparing to summit K2 after conquering Everest

Climbers including renowned Pakistani mountaineers Samina Baig and Sajid Sadpara, the son of legendary Ali Sadpara, were due to reach the summit of K2 — the world’s second tallest peak — on Tuesday.

Baig, the first Pakistani woman to reach the top of Everest, is now on a mission to raise the green flag on the 8,611-meter-high K2.

She also has the distinction of scaling the world’s seven highest peaks, known as the Seven Summits.

The Special Communication Organisation, which is overseeing the ‘SCO K2 Dream’ campaign, has supported Baig’s six-member expedition team.

In an interview with Arab News before leaving for the climb, Baig said, “K2 is probably one of the toughest mountains in the world.” “Its slopes have claimed the lives of many people. We recently lost [Muhammad] Ali [Sadpara] Bhai, a colleague. However, it is all a part of life. It’s all part of the fun.”
