Journalist Demands PM Shehbaz to Order Separate Gym Timings for Men and Women in Islamabad

Journalist Ansar Abbasi has triggered a widespread online discussion after suggesting that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif should consider implementing separate gym timings for men and women in Islamabad. He argued that mixed-gender workout environments may give rise to what he described as “moral and social issues,” and proposed that gyms should operate on clearly defined gender-based schedules in line with Islamic principles.

His remarks quickly gained traction on social media, where they were met with strong criticism from many users. A large number of commenters rejected the idea, stating that access to fitness facilities should remain a matter of personal choice and that public spaces like gyms should not be restricted on gender-based scheduling. Critics also argued that such proposals could limit inclusivity and discourage people from pursuing healthy lifestyles.

In response to the backlash, Abbasi defended his position, maintaining that his suggestion was intended to align with Islamic teachings as well as constitutional values. He reiterated that his call was aimed at addressing what he sees as broader social concerns, despite the growing opposition and debate surrounding his statement online.
