Punjab is set to introduce stricter traffic regulations by imposing fines on motorcyclists who ride without properly installed side-view mirrors and functional indicators.
The proposed move is part of a wider road safety initiative aimed at reducing the number of traffic accidents and promoting responsible riding practices across the province.
To support the initiative, the Lahore Traffic Police has submitted a proposal seeking amendments to the Motor Vehicles law.
Officials have also recommended that motorcycle manufacturers ensure all newly produced bikes come with permanently installed side-view mirrors, making it more difficult for riders to remove them after purchase.
According to traffic authorities, the absence of side mirrors and indicators significantly increases the risk of road accidents by limiting riders’ visibility and preventing them from clearly signaling turns or lane changes.
Officials believe that enforcing these safety measures will improve traffic discipline and help create safer roads for both motorists and pedestrians.
In addition to stricter enforcement and legal reforms, the government plans to launch public awareness campaigns and driver education programs.
These initiatives will focus on educating riders about the importance of using safety equipment, following traffic rules, and adopting responsible driving habits to improve overall road safety throughout Punjab.
