Babar Azam Creates ICC World Cup History With another Milestone

In ICC World Cup 2023 match between Pakistan and Afghanistan, Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, achieved a significant milestone by reaching 1,000 runs in ICC World Cups for Pakistan, which includes both T20I and ODI formats. This remarkable feat occurred during their match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, India. Babar Azam, playing in his fifth ICC tournament, joined the elite club, becoming only the second Pakistani player to achieve this milestone, following in the footsteps of the legendary Javed Miandad.

Javed Miandad, who played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s historic 1992 World Cup victory, accomplished this milestone in 28 innings, whereas Babar Azam achieved it in his 26th innings. It’s worth noting that in the 2019 World Cup, Azam scored 474 runs in eight innings, a record for any Pakistani batter in the history of the tournament.

During this particular match, Pakistan aimed to put up a competitive total against Afghanistan. At the time of the report, Pakistan was batting at 167-4 in 35 overs, with Babar Azam at 49* not out and Shadab Khan at the crease. The match held significance as both teams sought to improve their standing in the tournament, with Pakistan having two wins and two defeats from four games, while Afghanistan had just one win from four matches.

The encounter carried historical weight as the two sides had previously faced each other seven times in ODIs, with Pakistan emerging victorious in all encounters, including a memorable meeting in the 2019 World Cup when Imad Wasim guided Pakistan to a famous victory.
