The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a notice to Islamabad Marriott Hotel over problems found in its fire and life safety arrangements.
The notice was issued on September 1 after an inspection of the hotel. According to the authorities, the inspection found shortcomings in the hotel’s fire safety system. The CDA said the hotel was not fully meeting the requirements of Sections 3 and 4 of the Islamabad Fire Prevention and Life Safety Regulations 2010.
The hotel management has been directed to correct the identified issues and obtain a compliance certificate after completing the required work. Authorities have also warned that failure to address the problems could result in further action, including sealing the building.
The notice comes days after a fire at PIMS in Islamabad killed 14 newborn babies. The incident led authorities to increase fire safety inspections across the capital.
Earlier this year, the CDA inspected around 6,500 public and private buildings and found widespread gaps in fire safety approvals and certificates.
