Cyclone Biparjoy Likely to Hit Pakistan Coastline Tonight

Cyclone Biparjoy, the most anticipated threat these days, is likely to hit the coastline tonight. Sherry Rehman, the Climate Change Minister, during a press conference revealed that the landfall of cyclone, which was expected to be on 13th or 14th June is delayed due to unforeseen reasons.

Now the ‘Biparjoy’ will most probably reach Karachi coastline at Keti Bandar tonight. Moreover, she added that more than 82,000 people have been evacuated from the threatened areas to safer locations. The cyclone rerouted itself towards the northeast direction recently and it keeps changing its speed.

Sherry Rehman also revealed that 17 stations are monitoring the situation to keep everyone updated and avoid any danger. In addition, it is expected that more than 100 mm heavy rainfall is expected in Karachi, Tando Adam Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, and Sanghar.

The areas Tharparkar, Badin, Umarkot, and Thatta might experience around 300 mm rainfall. Regarding the safety and security management, the minister stated that two Battalions of Coast Guards and 16 companies of Rangers are patrolling the area. Moreover, 303 Navy personnel, 1400 Pakistan Army soldiers, and 87 medical units are deployed as well.
