Energy Crisis Worsens as 16 Power Plants Shut down

Three of Pakistan’s most important power companies have shut down 16 power plants due to a lack of fuel, exacerbating the country’s power crisis.

The closing of 16 power units due to three major businesses, it is being predicted to go through excessive load-shedding in Pakistan.

The Hub Power Company (HUBCO), Lalpir Power Limited, and PakGen Power have closed 16 power plants down, including Tarbela and Jamshoro, because of the mishandling of the source of furnace oil.

The lack of power has worsened even more. The power shortage has been increased to 1,000 megawatts as a result of power plant shutdowns. In the past, it was revealed that the shortage of electricity in the country had reached the point of 6,000 megawatts (MW) due to the lack of oil and gas at the power plants and that load shedding could exist for up to 12 hours across the country.

The requirements for the overall power went up to 25,500 MW, with the presence of only 18,700 MW, as per some sources.

It turned out to be a lack of 6,000 MW. According to their statement, “The shortage brought out six hours of load shedding in urban areas and 12 hours of power outages in rural areas.”

Additionally, they stated that the LESCO is going through a 600 MW power shortage, which could end up in around three hours of load shedding. “DISCOs have not shared any timetable for power outages,” they said.

The lack of power is because of a shortage of fuel and gas supply to the power plants, and when this problem finds its solution, the situation will get better soon, As per the records.
