The first female-run police station in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) opened in Rawalakot with the goal of increasing the confidence of women seeking redress of any form of injustice or legal assistance.
Dr Sohail Habib Tajik, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), told Dawn that the station was initially furnished with an 11-member staff, commanded by Sub-Inspector Zahida Hanif as station house officer (SHO).
In answer to a question, Mr Tajik stated that staff at the station will look into complaints regarding harassment of women at work or in educational institutions, internet stalking, child abuse, personal difficulties such as violence, civil issues such as property disputes, and instances involving females.
