Navy Grants Honorary Rank to 17-Year-Old Heart Patient Who Dreamed of Becoming an Officer

The Pakistan Navy has fulfilled a 17-year-old heart patient's wish to become a naval officer, granting Muhammad Ibad Hussain of Rajanpur the honorary rank of sub-lieutenant. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf approved the honour for the teenager.

Hussain, who has had a heart condition since birth, had a strong desire to join the Pakistan Navy as an officer. Following the approval of his honorary rank, he visited the navy's warship PNS Khyber, accompanied by his parents.

During the visit, Hussain received a detailed briefing about the ship's operational capabilities. He was also introduced to the everyday routines of the officers and sailors serving aboard the vessel.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Amjad Khan Niazi conferred the rank at a special epaulette presentation ceremony at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, recognising Zaman's cricket achievements and association with the service.

According to that report, Zaman joined the navy's Operations Branch as a sailor in 2007. His cricketing ability was recognised early in his service, and he represented the navy in numerous tournaments, earning honours through his performances. He made his international cricket debut in 2012 while still serving in the navy.

The report said the navy supported Zaman's move to pursue cricket and join Pakistan's national squad after recognising his talent. At the ceremony, Admiral Niazi congratulated him on his achievements for Pakistan in the sport.
