Only 10% IT Graduates Employable in Pakistan: State Bank

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) recent half year report present warning stats regarding the widening gulf present between academic and IT sector of Pakistan. According to the this report, on economic conditions of country, only 10% of IT graduates poses essential skills required to secure employment in IT insudtry.

In the era of advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI), this disparity in skills poses a significant threat to IT’s sector for future expansion. IT sector always plays an essential role in economic growth of any country in this modern world. However, the prevailing situation presents a warning scenario that from Pakistan’s annual supply of 20,000 to 25,000 fresh graduates in Engineering and IT sector, merely 10% of them have the basic IT skills that can cater the issue of industrial development in the country.

Moreover, a survey conducted by SBP reveals that majority of IT companies face difficulties in hiring skilled employees despite an increase in the number of graduates entering into the market, most of them lack the competence required to meet the evolving demand of digital world. Hence, the experts emphasis that there is a dire need to work on education system that not only meet the international standards but also the inculcates the necessary skills required by the IT industries in the market
